Alan made this for a potluck a few weeks back - we had some bread left over from the market. And then the potluck was cancelled due to the weather. So we had to eat it all ourselves.....
Ingredients
3 c Milk
3 lg Eggs
¾ c Sugar
½ t Ground Cinnamon
1 t Ground Cardamom (optional)
1 t Vanilla Extract
Zest from one Orange
2 T Orange Brandy (optional)
1 loaf Day Old Bread, cut into cubes
1 c Dried Cranberries
2 T Coarse Sugar
Method
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9” x 9” baking dish.
Whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, spices, vanilla and orange zest.
Stir in the bread and cranberries. Allow to sit for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally (this allows the liquid to soak into the bread).
Pour the contents into the prepared dish and distribute evenly. Sprinkle on the coarse sugar.
Bake for 40-50 minutes, until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown.
